Well Chlorination

Well Chlorination Services in Southern Maine and New Hampshire

The National Groundwater Association suggests that a drilled well be chlorinated at least once a year, and a dug well twice a year to prevent bacteria problems. The amount of chlorine (we use a mixture of pellets and liquid) used depends on the depth and flow of the well.

We provide chlorination services by running the chlorine through all the faucets in the home. The chlorine should be left in the plumbing fixture(s) for 12-24 hours with no water movement. After this, you can hook up a hose to an outside faucet and flush out the chlorine in the well off the lawn area, with periods of rest for the well to recover. Once the chlorine is gone, a new water test can be taken to ensure the chlorination removed all of the bacteria, which could be anything from E. coli to coliform — both harmful to your health.
